This mod lets you bypass God of War Ragnarök’s controversial PSN login on PC

People who don’t like PlayStation Network on computer can now rest assured: God of War Ragnarok now has a new add-on that removes the PSN account requirement on PC.

This mod from iArtorias, titled NoPSSDK, completely removes the PlayStation PC SDK runtime requirement for God of War Ragnarok. This means that you won’t have to log into the PlayStation Network (or encounter any associated errors) with this mod installed. As for the actual installation, it’s pretty simple; all you need to do is download the mod and paste both files into your game directory.

The modder also indicated that players who are still encountering the login error should delete the file in “C:\Users\(Username)\\Saved games\God of War Ragnarök\(AccountID)\userpreferences”. An additional step that may be necessary in some cases is to go into the Windows Firewall settings and enable the God of War Ragnarok application file cannot connect to the Internet.

As with most mods, NoPSSDK can also be prone to crashes when the game is updated. Although the mod author promises that they would maintain the tool if and when that happens.

However, the mod only fixes half of the problems caused by the PSN requirement. As is the case with every other PlayStation title on PC this year, God of War Ragnarok is not available in nearly two-thirds of the world where PSN is not available. This includes all of Africa and even the Baltic States in the European Union. This means that players from these regions cannot legally purchase the game.

The God of war sequel was at the forefront of controversy upon its launch on PC, with most of the negative Steam reviews pointing out Sony’s stance on enforcing PSN accounts for a fully single-player game. And as it turns out, the game runs just fine without one.

Ragnarok‘s review rating on Steam currently stands at “mostly positive” with 70 percent positive reviews, up from “mixed” at launch. Interestingly, the top review on the Steam page recommends the mod in question; that seems to be the general sentiment among PC gamers across the board.

We’ll have to wait and see if Sony takes steps to remove the mod or make it impossible to bypass PSN. Until then, hopefully we’ll see mods like this pop up eventually for Ghost of Tsushima, Helldivers 2and every new PlayStation title coming to PC.
