This long-awaited, cozy castle-building game finally has a release date

Mark your calendars, cozy-game fans. One of the most anticipated indie titles has just been given a release date, and it’s almost here.

The upcoming castle building game, Small clearingis scheduled to hit Steam on September 23, developer Pounce Light announced today. In Small clearing, Players build kingdoms using a variety of terrain and structure modifiers that challenge players’ creativity and curiosity. In its announcement, Pounce Light shared a new trailer that shows off just how nuanced castles can be, featuring lantern-lit ponds with pettable ducks, quaint countryside villages, and more.

Small clearing is the ultimate cozy game. As the Steam page says, there is “no management, no combat, no wrong answers.” Instead, players can design their castles to their liking, while watching the terrain and structure designs blend together to create awe-inspiring landscapes. Much of the gameplay will involve discovering how Small clearingThe gridless builders’ tools interact with the environment, then use that discovery to further expand their castle designs.

With the start of the Wholesome Games Festival today, the developers have also brought back the game’s demo, which was originally included as part of the Steam Next Fest back in June. Prospective players can jump into the demo and get a taste of what Small clearingThe gameplay elements of interacting with each other as they build their own mini castles.
