THE SKATEROOM releases Roy Lichtenstein collection

THE SKATEROOM has released their latest collection of skateboard artwork, this time featuring iconic pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. The collection consists of three individual skateboards and a skateboard triptych, each featuring a famous comic book-style painting by Lichtenstein.

The collection begins with Lichtenstein’s 1964 “Girl in Mirror” artwork, which depicts a beautiful blonde woman smiling into a hand mirror. The skateboard enlarges the artwork by cropping it significantly to fit the vertical, slim format. A 1963 version of “The Drowning Girl” on a three-skate set comes next, featuring the full painting, complete with the iconic line “I Don’t Care! I’d Rather Sink – Than Call Brad For Help!”

Another piece from 1963 follows with “Varoom!” which depicts an explosion from a comic book to critique the glamorized depictions of war at the time. The final piece alters Lichtenstein’s 1964 painting “Happy Tears” for an extremely cropped image of the woman’s face with only one eye and a sliver of her mouth. Although less is shown, the full impact of this painting is still felt, leaving the viewer to decide for themselves whether the woman is happy or sad.

THE SKATEROOM is no stranger to collaborations, routinely featuring the work of renowned artists such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Yoshitomo Nara on their skateboards. These collections are aimed at loyal fans of legendary artists and new art collectors inspired by the modern skateboard format.

THE SKATEROOM Roy Lichtenstein collection retails for $220 USD to $550 USD and is available for purchase on their website . You can check out the collection above.
