The Rock and Chris Evans battle angry snowmen in Red One trailer

The rollout for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s new Christmas action film, Red One, hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing. Earlier this year, there were reports that Johnson was causing trouble by not showing up to set as scheduled and being abusive. But with the film now just under two months away, all that bad press may be about to fade into the background, because the new trailer for Red One is so over-the-top ridiculous, it might just work.

The trailer focuses largely on former Captain America actor Chris Evans, who plays bounty hunter Jack O’Malley. Jack is so good at his job that the North Pole security team, led by Callum Drift (Johnson) and Zoe (Lucy Liu), has forcibly recruited him to help them find Santa Claus (JK Simmons).

While the trailer doesn’t definitively reveal who the mastermind behind Santa’s kidnapping was, it does feature some bizarre winter-themed villains, including angry snowmen. There’s also a talking polar bear in Team North Pole, and Callum reveals that all the toy stores are secretly connected by Christmas magic… or something.

No toy movie would be complete without some form of product placement. In this movie, Hot Wheels and Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots can become useful tools thanks to Callum’s Arctic technology. That should come in handy when Jack and Callum have to battle Krampus (Kristofer Hivju).

Jake Kasdan directed the film from a screenplay by Chris Morgan. Red One is set to hit theaters November 15.
