The River LINE railway is still running between some stations after a fatal accident

TRENTON – River LINE service between Trenton and Florence remains suspended today, Oct. 15, due to a fatal accident on the tracks Monday.

Buses will run between the line’s northernmost stations throughout the service day, NJ Transit said Monday evening.

Rail service between these stations was suspended shortly after 6 a.m. Monday when a River LINE car struck a tree on the tracks north of the Roebling station.

The crash killed the engineer and caused injuries that were not considered life-threatening to 23 of the 42 passengers aboard the train.

“River LINE personnel will continue to make necessary repairs to the track,” the transit agency said.

It added that “in an abundance of caution we will continue to thoroughly evaluate the area surrounding Monday’s accident before resuming scheduled service between Florence and Trenton.”

It says the River LINE will run as usual between Florence and the entertainment center in Camden.

The accident is still under investigation.
