Daniel Hillier has climbed the leaderboard in his first weekend of a major championship, posting a 68 (three under par) in his third round at The Open, which puts him in a tie for 15th place with one round remaining.

This week’s golf tournament at Royal Troon in Scotland has proven to be a testing period for some of the world’s best golfers. However, Hillier has had a good tournament so far, making the cut for the first time in the four majors he has played in, and impressed on Saturday night.

Partnered with Australian veteran and 2013 Masters winner Adam Scott in an early tee time, Hillier got going early, with two birdies on the front nine and two more on the back nine. A five on the par-four 12th was the only blot on his scorecard for the round, with his three-under par moving him 45 places up the board.

Looking back on his lap, Hillier said the surprisingly pleasant conditions worked in his favour.

“It was fun. It’s a lot more fun when it’s not blowing 25 (mph) there. Those first nine holes are a lot easier, to be honest. (I) played them pretty solid, made a couple of good birdies early on and kept it going,” Hillier said.
