The month of August is full of big discounts, with deep discounts on one of the best RPG series Japan has ever exported.

The big discounts continue today on only the games that matter. Where was I yesterday? Become even more impressed by Astro bota game that already felt like a solid pre-order prospect going into that hands-on session. I’ll let you run through my more extensive impressions here, but the TL;DR is that it’s no slouch in the challenge department (if you go to the ‘hard’ designated planets of its star system). As a serious 3D platformer fan who’s sunk their teeth into Crash And Super Mario 64I’m as surprised by this as you are.

In retro news I celebrate the 11th anniversary of Duck Tales Remasteredan exemplary milestone in how to do an 8-bit glow-up. Ironically, developer WayForward went the opposite of Scrooge with this one, sparing no expense on hand-drawn HD graphics, extra levels, unlockable content, and retaining most of the original voice cast from the iconic 80s cartoon. Better yet, they retained much of the insane difficulty curve—the very thing that made this an absolute qwacker of a game in the first place.

All-Star Brawl 2 finally lives up to its name and is an all-star platform fighter. Not only is it a fantastic sequel that takes criticisms of the first game and sends them to the blast zone, it goes way beyond those tweaks. 9/10.

Got it yesterday. Awesome. I was especially surprised by how taxing the “hard” levels are. Since this isn’t a demo, Team Asobi clearly no longer wants the lowest common denominator gamer to enjoy their platformer 100%.
