The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Gets Deep Dive in Traversing Hyrule Trailer

Nintendo has revealed a five-minute dive into The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom in the Traversing Hyrule trailer.

The trailer, seen below, highlights key locations from the Zelda game, including Hyrule Castle and the surrounding Castle Town, as well as the reveal of the world’s different regions: Gerudo Desert, Jabul Waters, Eldin Volcano, and Faron Wetlands.

Players can quickly travel around the world using fast travel points called Waypoints, though by default these are only available once the player reaches each location naturally. Horses are also available to ride around Hyrule, and can be summoned at any time if the player unlocks the carrot echo (which means you can summon a carrot; what a game).

Mechanics from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its sequel Tears of the Kingdom have also made the transition to Echoes of Wisdom. For example, players can mix and match ingredients, but instead of doing so through cooking, they’ll make smoothies that can have different effects. Dressing Zelda in different outfits also provides unique benefits.

Zelda’s companion Tri’s abilities were also shown off, namely Bind and Reverse Bind. The former allows Zelda to force objects to follow her movements, and was used in the trailer to move a large boulder out of her path, while the latter does the opposite! Players can force Zelda to mimic the movement of an object, for example to fly using the path of a bird.

Echoes of Wisdom was revealed on June 18, 2024, with a release date just a few months later: September 26. It features brand new gameplay styles that make use of Zelda’s skillset, and promises huge variation between playthroughs.

Fans quickly began trying to piece together where and when in the Zelda timeline it took place, but fan theories reached new heights when Echoes of Wisdom’s ESRB rating indicated that Link was a playable character after all.
