The Leeds star stormed off the Stadium of Light pitch after a mistake by Illan Meslier

Illan Meslier had a night to forget away to Sunderland on Friday evening.

Despite falling behind to a nine-minute goal from Chris Rigg, Leeds United fought back well to turn the game around.

Joel Piroe equalized after 22 minutes, with Junior Firpo firing the Whites ahead with just over half an hour to play.

And it looked like the away team would hold out and take three points in the race for promotion to the championship… However, Meslier had other ideas.

The goalkeeper’s mistake, which will go down in Championship history as one of the worst individual mistakes ever, allowed the Black Cats to equalize at the death and left Firpo fuming.

According to journalist Graham Smyth, who was present at the Stadium of Light, Leeds United’s second goalscorer stormed off the pitch at the whistle as his teammates rushed to console their goalkeeper.

Suggestions that the Whites’ camp has been disrupted by Meslier’s howler will not go down well with the fans, nor with manager Daniel Farke, who must now work hard to bring the squad back together as they prepare to host of Sheffield United after the international break.
