The Internet Reacts to Nintendo Alarmo Clock’s Weirdest Feature

Leave it to Nintendo to psychically inform fans already excited about an impending Switch 2 reveal by announcing a fancy alarm clock instead. Alarmo wakes you up with sounds of Mario coins and chirping Pikmin. It costs $100, works best when you sleep alone, and it breaks the collective brain of the internet.

It checks all the boxes: whimsical, eccentric, unnecessarily expensive and bizarrely timed. For weeks, since Nintendo skipped the traditional showcase in September, there have been hints in the background that official news about the Switch 2 would finally be coming. Instead, the company rolled out Alarmo without batting an eyelid. Pre-orders have gone live and are already sold out. Of course, some people are trying to sell Alarmo, which won’t ship until 2025. for almost double the standard price on eBay.

But the funniest thing about Alarmo is that it doesn’t work well for couples. The sensor that turns off the clock when you get out of bed has difficulty distinguishing when two people are sleeping together. “Alarmo cannot detect a specific person, so if multiple people are sleeping in the same bed within range of the sensor, the alarm can stop when one person gets out of bed, but restart as soon as it detects someone is still in bed. ” reads the frequently asked questions. “The alarm stops completely as soon as everyone is out of bed.”

Essentially, the experiment began with the goal of finding a new use for the company’s motion sensor technology. And while you’d expect a Nintendo clock to have gaming elements in it, they ultimately decided against it because they didn’t want to disrupt the normal stimuli surrounding sleep by gaming it.

But there was one Alarmo prototype during the testing phase where people apparently made a slapping gesture in time to the chirping of the clock. It beeped every time apparently sounds off Rhythm heaven. TEAR.
