The Hayes brothers plead guilty to assault causing damage in Limerick, producing keys and hurley

TWO BROTHERS from Kildimo pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court on Wednesday morning to assaulting a man more than three years ago.

Daragh Hayes, aged 37, and Cian Hayes, aged 33, from Ballyashea, Kildimo were present for the brief procedural matter. The siblings are the older brothers of five-time All-Ireland winning Limerick star hurler Kyle Hayes.

Prosecutor Lily Buckley BL, instructed by State’s Attorney Brendan Gill, said the brothers could be arraigned before Judge Colin Daly.

Daragh Hayes, who was wearing a navy suit, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning damage, supplying an article, namely a wrench, and a second charge of producing an article, namely a hurley, when the registrar charged him .

Daragh Hayes was represented by Brian McInerney SC, who acted with Kenneth Kerins BL. Mr McInerney has submitted applications for a probation report and a psychological report, citing “complex family dynamics”.

The offenses took place in Ballyashea, Kildimo, on September 29, 2021.

Cian Hayes pleaded guilty to assault causing damage and producing a wrench when the clerk read out the charges.

Cian Hayes was represented by Lorcan Connolly SC, who performed with Amy Nix BL. Mr Connolly said Cian Hayes is 33 years old, has no previous convictions, is a married man with a young family and is an engineer for a multinational company. Mr Connolly asked for a probation report to be prepared on behalf of his client.

Judge Daly said he would not be making any orders today. The judge adjourned the case to Friday when he said he would make a decision on the “necessity of the reports.”
