The entire Blue Lagoon parking lot is now covered in lava, except for a few street lamps that stand at the end of what used to be a parking lot.

Then the lava seems to have spread a bit and has just passed, among other things, a sign directing visitors to the parking lot.

The lava continues to flow along the defensive wall west of the Blue Lagoon.

This is the main car park of the Blue Lagoon and there is parking for approximately 350 cars and a bus parking area.

Helga Árnadóttir, sales, operations and services manager at the Blue Lagoon, told mbl.is earlier today that access to the Blue Lagoon should be assessed when it is time to see if there are options to use other vehicle access routes.

“It is impossible to predict the damage at this time, but we will see this better as time goes on and see how we can respond.” There are some parking options at the reservoir, but we need to look more closely at that in the future,” Árnadóttir said.

You can follow the progress of the lava below on a webcam from Mt Þorbjörn.
