The Canfield 10U softball team wins the Ohio State Little League Championship in the Minor (8-10) Division against Wheelersburg

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Canfield 10U softball team won the Ohio State Little League Championship in the Minor (8-10) Division against Wheelersburg 5-1 at the Fields of Dreams in Boardman Monday afternoon.

The championship game was decided in a bonus game, with Wheelersburg defeating Canfield 2-0 in the first game on Monday morning.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the top of the 5th inning. Canfield’s Grace Carpenter scored the go-ahead run to start the 5th inning.

In the win, pitcher Lilly Barber struck out 9 batters in 6 innings. Cardinals 1st baseman Gabby Stack caught the final out to end the game.

Canfield will next play its Little League Softball Central Region game against the team from Wisconsin on July 21 at 7 p.m. in Whitestown, Indiana.
