The 21-year-old on probation now faces a federal charge in the shooting death of a Nashville police officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Metro Nashville Police (MNPD) say a 21-year-old is now facing federal charges after shooting at an MNPD officer Tuesday morning.

MNPD reports Knykholas Lane was already on probation for aggravated burglary when police responded Tuesday to the 700 block of Lewis Street for a call that an armed man was breaking into a woman’s home. Responding officers ordered him to stop, but Lane fled on foot and pointed a gun at an officer, firing one shot. The officer returned fire, hitting Lane twice.

Lane suffered non-life-threatening injuries and after being treated, he was booked into the Metro Jail. He is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and also had outstanding warrants for his arrest for domestic violence and false imprisonment. If convicted of the current crime, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
