The 20 Greatest Centers in NBA History

Malcolm Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Main awards: Two NBA titles, one Finals MVP, four MVPs, seven All-NBA 1st Team selections, 13 All-Stars, two All-Defensive 1st Team selections

NBA Rankings: 1st in rebounds, 7th in scoring, 83rd in assists

The most dominant big man in NBA offensive history, although part of that had to do with the level of competition Wilt Chamberlain confronted in his time. But when you dominate at Chamberlain’s level, who cares who he did it to?

Chamberlain fell short as a team player, as he typically performed better in the regular season than in the playoffs. Many believe this was due to his unwillingness to make mistakes in close games due to his unreliable free throw shooting.

Chamberlain’s single-season rebounding and scoring records are untouchable. He also has the second-best scoring average, behind only Jordan. And if MJ had played another year with the Wizards, Chamberlain would have been No. 1 in that statistic. Chamberlain is also the only player to lead the league in total scoring, rebounds, and assists for a single season, and retired as the all-time leader in scoring and rebounding at the time.
