“Terrible court, what is this?” Holger Rune is a new addition to the list of players complaining about the courts used during Queen’s Club Championships

The Queen’s Club Championships courts have come under fire as several players complained of slipping during their matches. Unfortunately, some players quit halfway through and got injured.

One of these players, seventh seed Holger Rune, who ended his campaign after losing 4-6, 7-6(7-4), 6-3 in his opening round match to unseeded Australian Jordan Thompson, started arguing deal with the referee. James Keothavongand even called for the supervisor when he slipped on Center Court on Monday 9 (June 17).

This court is so slippy. Terrible court, what is this? I can’t stand on the court. It’s too wet. Call the supervisor. I fell three times. It’s too wet. You think I’m falling on purpose?

said Holger Rune during the match

Two players, Dan Evans and Frances Tiafoe, injured themselves and withdrew from their respective matches. Former world number 10 Tiafoe, during his first round match with Rinky Hijikatafell heavily on his hip in the third set and gave a walkover to the Australian.

A spokesperson for the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) told Telegraph Sport why the grass courts are often slippery. He said grass is a living surface and responds to weather conditions.

Dan Evans is heartbroken after injuring his knee at the Queen’s Club Championships

The most frustrating thing for British No. 3 Dan Evans was the uncertainty surrounding his participation in the Wimbledon Championships and the Paris Olympics. The British joined America Brandon Nakashima in the first round of the Queen’s Club Championships and his campaign there ended with a nasty fall that injured his knee.

Evans did not blame the surface directly, but admitted it would be a tough pill to swallow if he missed the next two major tournaments. At the Olympic Games he will compete in the doubles matches alongside former world number 1 Andy Murray.

I’m heartbroken at the minute. It’s probably the worst thing you can do on the grass. Your body goes one way, (and your leg goes the other). We have all seen that sort of motion before. You wince if you’re watching, and you hope it’s not too bad if it’s happening to you.

Dan Evans said after the game

If Evans ultimately misses the Olympics, Murray, who is expected to compete in his fifth Olympics, will team up with Cameron Norrie or Jack Draper. Murray, who secured his first-round victory over Alexei Popyrin and faces Jordan Thompson, described Evans’ injury as “disappointing.”

In case you missed it!
