TenZ officially withdraws from competitive VALORANT

After three years working at Sentinels as one of the biggest names in DIGESTIVETyson “TenZ” Ngo is hanging up his keyboard and mouse and focusing full-time on content creation.

The 23-year-old announced his competitive retirement on social media on Saturday, September 14, stating that he had actually decided to step back from the competitive scene in early 2024. He said that he didn’t want his career to end on “a low point” like 2023, so he was putting all of his energy into winning for the “final year” of his career.

“Given the success of my content creation, it was definitely a no-brainer decision in terms of how much effort, how much work (and) how much of your life you dedicate to being a competitive pro player,” TenZ explained in his announcement video. “I definitely put my heart and soul into this year and tried to be the best that I could.”

TenZ is one of the most popular DIGESTIVE pros in the world, with one of the largest followings of any pro player. He has also been one of the best players in the world, with multiple tournament wins to his name, including DIGESTIVE Masters Reykjavík 2021, the 2023 AfreecaTV DIGESTIVE League and the 2024 DIGESTIVE Masters Madrid.

He began his career as a duelist for Sentinels, with one of the best goals in the league. However, he struggled to find success with the team in this role for a few years, eventually transitioning to the role of controller to increase his impact on the team. Ultimately, this role switch was the catalyst for Sentinels’ success in 2024, alongside the improved performance of the rest of the all-star cast.

“By switching roles to a role that I’ve never really played in my life, I just wanted to be the best teammate I could be, and also bring the best player I could be,” TenZ continued. “I’m just really happy that I was able to make my mark within DIGESTIVE history and will be remembered for it.”

As for the future of the Sentinels roster, this leaves two potential holes in their 2025 roster. Along with TenZ’s retirement, the team also wouldn’t re-sign Sacy with the team, meaning they would have to re-build the roster around Zachary “zekken” Patrone, Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro, and Amine “johnqt” Ouarid.
