‘Tell Me Lies’ rookie Tom Ellis felt ‘isolated’ as the new kid

“Tell Me Lies” newcomer Tom Ellis revealed in an exclusive interview with The Post that he felt like “the odd one out” during his debut season on Hulu’s psychological drama.

The actor, known for his role as Lucifer Morningstar in the urban fantasy series “Lucifer,” joined the cast for Season 2 of the erotic college drama as Oliver, a mysterious married professor who gets a little too close to Bree (Catherine Missal).

In real life, Ellis, 45, is married to “Tell Me Lies” creator Meaghan Oppenheimer. Despite his close connection to the hit series, he said he felt “isolated” as one of the cast’s newest eye candy — but he doesn’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing.

He admitted that he “got to know the cast during season 1” and “spent a lot of time in Atlanta” during filming because of his wife, saying the sense of isolation made sense for his character.

“I think the nature of this storyline meant that I got to spend pretty much all of my time with Cat. And so that’s – and I think the knock-on effect of that was that I felt quite isolated from the rest of the cast, but not in a bad way, obviously,” Ellis explained.

“You know, we saw them and stuff, but I felt, I felt like the odd one out. But I think that was actually really important to the story,” he continued.

The actor said it was a “great cast to be a part of,” sharing, “I really felt like all of my, all of my stuff and work was concentrated on Cat. That played into what we did in a lot of ways, it felt like we had this, this secrets thing, away from everybody else that they didn’t know about.”

“Tell Me Lies” Season 2 introduces Ellis and another newcomer, Thomas Doherty, as Leo. While Season 1 focused on Lucy Albright (played by Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White), the newest season follows what happens after the pair ends their toxic relationship in two timelines: 2008 and seven years later when Evan and Bree are about to get married.

It’s full of twists that no one — not even the cast — saw coming. When Missal read the script for Season 2, she told The Post exclusively, her jaw dropped.

But Lucy and Stephen – played by actors who actually date in real life – aren’t the only “toxic” duo to watch out for.

After Stephen’s unexpected betrayal, Lucy seeks solace in his brother Leo. As the lines between Professor Oliver and Bree’s relationship blur, Stephen will be torn between reconciling with Diana and managing his intense bond with Lucy.

If you thought season 1 was good, wait until you see this season.

The relationships, drama and sex scenes are level 10 – and when it comes to the intimate moments between the characters, Ellis and Missal called the moments “toxic,” “sensual” and absolutely “perfect.”

The first two episodes of “Tell Me Lies” Season 2 are already available to stream on Hulu. The remaining episodes will be released weekly on Hulu until October 16.
