Teen Walmart worker found dead inside large walk-in oven in superstore

A teen Walmart worker was found dead in a large walk-in oven in a superstore in Canada.

The New York Post reported that the female worker, 19, was found around 9:30 pm Saturday at a Walmart in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Local police said that the Occupational Health and Safety agency was called in to help in the “sudden death” investigation.

Halifax police on Monday said that “the cause and manner of death” were still under investigation.

But the Post reported that multiple sources told Global News that the death involved a large baking oven that was still on when authorities arrived.

But sources did not say exactly how the teen died. Police would not elaborate or confirm that an oven was involved, Global News said.

Global News said that the store had been closed until further notice.

Halifax police said that the unidentified teen “was located in a large walk-in oven belonging to the store’s bakery department,” the Post reported.

“It is important to note that the investigation has not yet reached a point where the cause and manner of death have been confirmed,” the department said.

Police said that the investigation into the “sudden death” is “complex” and “may take a significant amount of time.”

The department did not say if the incident was being eyed as potentially criminal.

The Post reported that the teen was a member of the local Sikh community and had moved to Canada from India a few years ago.

CTV said that Canada’s Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration had issued a stop-work order for the bakery and “one piece of equipment.”
