Teen dies, 3 others seriously injured in Mystic crash

MYSTIC, CT (WFSB) – One teenager was killed and three others were seriously injured in a crash in Mystic on Monday.

Police identified the victim who died as 14-year-old Carson Wilson of Groton.

The other teens who were injured were identified as 17-year-olds.

Police said an SUV driver was driving north on Fishtown Road, just south of Mystic River Magnet School, when the person struck a tree.

That happened on Monday around 1:30 am.

On the morning of October 14, 2024, an accident was reported on Fishtown Road in Mystic.

Police said it was an iPhone alert to Groton 911 from someone’s phone in the car that first alerted them to the crash.

Afterwards, police received two other 911 calls.

Groton Police Chief LJ Fusaro said all four victims in the vehicle were believed to be under the age of 21.

“We had members of the Noank, Old Mystic and Mystic fire departments respond. They were able to free four occupants from the vehicle and take them to hospital,” he said.

“They came right away. Within a few minutes I’d say. A couple of police cars and then a lot of emergency vehicles,” said Bobby Clark, a witness.

They suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

“There are no words for it. This is something that will change the lives of these young people forever,” said Justin Allison of Ledyard. “You never want this kind of thing to happen to anyone. You really don’t do that.”

The superintendent of Groton Public Schools released a statement.

Fishtown Road near Little Gull Lane was closed to traffic during the investigation.

Bobby Clark said he lives a few doors away. He woke up late and heard the crash.

“There was a lot of glass in it. Then I heard the horn,” Clark said. “All I could think of the impact was that someone was standing against the horn and the horn kept going.”

The scene has since been cleared up. A small memorial of flowers and a pumpkin has grown at the site of the crash.

“If there were any witnesses, we don’t have any information at this time to believe there were people in the area, but if there were, we would ask that you call us,” Fusaro said.

The cause of the crash has not been determined.
