Tecumseh, Siena Heights graduate Shane Lewandowski to lead Lawrence Tech

LIVONIA — A former Tecumseh and Siena Heights star now leads another lacrosse program, as Shane Lewandowski was recently named the next head coach of the Lawrence Tech men’s lacrosse team.

LTU Athletics Director Mary Ann Meltzer appointed Lewandowski after he spent last season as an assistant under Paul Nemzek, who went 40-37 in his seven seasons as head coach.

“Shane built positive, impactful relationships with our student-athletes in his first season on the men’s lacrosse coaching staff this spring,” Meltzer said in a press release. “His offensive acumen resulted in an increase in the team’s scoring offense during the second half of the season and a man-up efficiency of 44.4 percent, which ranked first in the conference and third in the nation. He has earned this opportunity to be a first-time head coach and I look forward to watching him continue to develop this program into a WHAC contender.”

Scoring has been Lewandowski’s style since his playing days at Tecumseh. He led the program until his final season in 2014, then transferred to SHU, where he ranks among the best in program history.

Lewandowski ranks third all-time in goals (130) and points (182) and seventh in assists (52). When he graduated, he held the record for goals.

Since graduating, he has not left the sport and has transitioned into coaching. Before his 2024 assistant season for the Blue Devils, he was an assistant for WHAC member Rochester on the women’s team. He has also coached at the club level with Betta Lax, Lenawee Youth Lacrosse and All American Lacrosse.

“It is an honor and a humbling experience to be selected as the next head coach for LTU Men’s Lacrosse,” Lewandowski said in the release. “I would like to thank the athletic department for their confidence in me, the current LTU players for their belief in me, and my family for their unwavering support.

“My vision for the program is a championship-caliber lacrosse team with a roster comprised of only the best and brightest student-athletes from across the country. I have had the time of my life playing lacrosse in the WHAC and am very excited to provide our players with a positive and memorable college lacrosse playing experience. I am truly looking forward to being tested as a coach.”

Lewandowski is the third head coach in the history of the program, which has a 50-41 mark in eight seasons.
