Teacher and her husband attack the school employee during a meeting about their son’s behavior

DELTONA, Fla. (WKRC) – A couple was arrested Tuesday morning after authorities said they assaulted a school employee during a meeting about their son’s behavior.

Dagmarie Aponte, an elementary school teacher, and her husband, Jorge Rivera, attended the meeting with the resource officer because their son was accused of pushing a girl at school on Monday, according to FOX35.

Volusia Sheriff uploaded the body camera footage to his Instagram and multiple users, including Police Bodycam Videos, uploaded the footage to YouTube.

Police said Rivera became irate during the meeting and was asked to leave. Then, in the hallway, Aponte allegedly pushed the resource officer against the wall while Rivera punched her in the head and knocked her to the ground, according to FOX35.

Rivera then stole the deputy officer’s Taser, but the officer pulled out her firearm and forced Rivera to drop the weapon. The school employee was hospitalized due to symptoms of a concussion.

Both parents faced multiple charges, including a charge against a law enforcement officer. Rivera was also charged with armed robbery, grand larceny and aggravated hate crime after allegedly using derogatory slurs during the attack.

Aponte was released from jail on bail Tuesday evening. Rivera remains in custody at the Volusia County Jail.
