Taipei Fashion Week to promote collaboration, emerging names and Pierre Cardin

This edition of Taipei Fashion Week will continue its mission of “integrating a global vision with local culture,” as evidenced by this season’s inclusion of international names and emphasis on local emerging names. This year’s main event from October 17 to 21 follows the ‘Taiwan Type Fashion Illustration’ concept, which is reflected in a visual campaign starring Olympic gold medalist Lin Yuting.

The theme, aimed at capturing the memories and daily lives of Taiwanese people, will also be incorporated into the program itself and contributed to designers’ choice of the core lineup, consisting of 13 names. They include regular customers such as Gioia Pan, Damur, Story Wear and Inf, as well as returning brands such as Seivson and Jenn Lee. The selected individuals were chosen for their ability to “bring out the embracing spirit of Taiwan.”

However, this all starts at the opening show of Fashion Week, where six Taiwanese designers come together with graphic IP artists, in response to the strong rise of this market among young consumers in the country. “We have come up with an innovative idea of creating a dialogue between fashion designers and graphic IP artists, bringing fashion closer to a younger audience,” said Culture Minister Yuan Li. “These fashion designers’ abundant design capabilities convey the worldview and stories behind each original graphic IP.”

Broadening the graphics IP market to influence presentations

An art exhibition titled ‘Taiwan Type Super Swag’ will also take place throughout the week, further highlighting the increasing importance of the graphics IP market, especially in the contemporary era. Here, graphic IP artists have been invited to show cross-border collaborations and authorizations that reflect the country’s historical traces and everyday streetscape.

Meanwhile, a crossover fashion show co-curated by set designer Chien Chang Feng will be unveiled on Xinyi Road in Taipei, showcasing new collections from notable designers such as Just In XX, Pces, Claudie Wang and Bob Jian. Divided into six scenes, the show explores Taiwan’s old and new history, integrating surrounding shops and storefronts into a tunnel-like experience among the “sleepless city.”

On the more international front, Italian-French heritage label Pierre Cardin makes its debut in Taipei this season. The show will showcase the brand’s latest couture collection, initially unveiled in Paris, under the leadership of its new president, Rodrigo Basilicati Cardin. The event will host the ceremony for the Pierre Cardin Young Designers Competition, continuing the brand’s commitment to fostering a new generation of designers.

In addition to the many shows, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Culture will continue to support companies outside the fashion week during the Taipei In Style business matchmaking trade fair. Buyers from around the world are invited to attend the occasion, with 39 Taiwanese brands hosting their own stands and Asia Fashion Collection presenting its international fashion project.
