Swift Current RCMP searching for two men involved in gun-related assaults

Two men are wanted in connection with an altercation over a firearm, theft, burglary and assault.

Swift Current RCMP are looking for 35-year-old Nicolas Belanger of Medicine Hat and 28-year-old Mathew Neufeld of Swift Current in connection with two incidents.

On October 25, police received a report of a firearm discharged during an altercation on Herbert Street. They have not yet received any reports of injuries.

The RCMP reported they responded to a burglary at a home on 10th Avenue NW in Swift Current at 6 a.m. on Oct. 29.

They say several people entered the home with a firearm and assaulted two residents. The firearm was not discharged, but the suspects stole money and a car.

Police recovered the car shortly afterwards and the suspects are still on the run.

35-year-old Nicholas Belanger of Medicine Hat, AB and 28-year-old Mathew Neufeld of Swift Current, SK are each charged with:

  • one count, break and enter, Section 348(1)(b), Criminal Code;
  • two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, Article 267(b) of the Criminal Code;
  • one count, theft over $5,000, Penal Code Section 334(a);
  • one count: Theft Under $5,000, Penal Code Section 334(b); And
  • one charge, disguised with intent to commit an indictable offence, section 351(2) of the Criminal Code.

Nicholas Belanger is additionally charged with:

  • one charge, theft with a firearm, Article 344(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • one count, assault with a weapon, Penal Code section 267(a);
  • one charge, careless use of a firearm, section 86(1) of the Criminal Code;
  • one count, pointing a firearm, section 87(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count: possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88(1) of the Criminal Code;
  • in one case a firearm was discharged in a dangerous manner, article 244(1), Criminal Code; And
  • six counts, failure to comply with probation order, Criminal Code Section 733.1(1).

RCMP believe Nicholas Belanger and Mathew Neufeld may be in the Swift Current or Medicine Hat areas, but their current whereabouts are unknown. If you see Nicholas Belanger or Mathew Neufeld, do not approach them.
