Swansea: Championship club close to signing wingers and defenders

Luke Williams says Swansea City are planning to sign a centre-back and a winger ahead of Sunday’s South Wales derby against Cardiff City.

The defender, who is signing on a season-long loan deal, will provide much-needed competition to current top duo Ben Cabango and Harry Darling.

The arrival of another winger – who will be a regular – gives Williams a welcome option on the flanks and could allow Swansea to deploy Eom Ji-Sung in a more central attacking role.

“We have a couple of players that will be joining us soon – we have an attacking player and a defensive player,” said head coach Williams.

“We just want to make sure the medical goes well, but we are already in that phase, so that is good news.

“We are not done with our recruitment yet, but this will be a big step forward in giving us more coverage and making us more competitive.”

Williams says the two new faces could “potentially” play against Cardiff at the Swansea.com Stadium, although it seems unlikely either player will start.

Swansea have been keen to bolster their squad, having signed just four new players and parted with 13 experienced players so far in the summer transfer window.
