Dimapur, June 30: On June 28 and 29, Dapfhütsumia Cricket Club (DCC) organized a Super Six Soft Ball Cricket tournament entitled “DCC Summer Cup”.
Coincidentally, this was the very first edition of the tournament, with 19 teams participating to compete for the championship title.
The first day witnessed eleven hard-fought matches, with the remaining teams advancing to the quarter-finals the following day.
From the quarter-finals to the semi-finals, no match was won easily as these were now the best teams to have survived the early rounds. In the end, the two teams that surpassed everything and reached the final were Vizo CC and Kati Super Strikers.
The toss was won by Kati Super Strikers and they chose to play first. Vizo CC’s power hitters posted a respectable total of 79/3 in 6 overs against the formidable bowlers of Kati Super Strikers.
It is worth mentioning that Ntsenlo of Kati Super Strikers managed to score a hat-trick in the semi-final, the only hat-trick of the tournament.
Vizokhotuo Nguzhü top scored for Vizo CC with 35 runs. In the second innings of the match, Vizo CC’s bowlers displayed disciplined bowling, leaving Kati Super Strikers’ batsmen with very little room to manoeuvre. Nevertheless, they managed to reach 61 runs for the loss of one wicket after the 6th and the last over.
Ntsenlo of Kati Super Strikers scored the highest for their team with 45 valuable points. Ntsenlo also scored 99 points for his team in one of their previous matches. However, Kati Super Strikers fell short in the final as Vizo CC emerged jubilant as winners of the inaugural edition of the DCC Summer Cup.
Vizokhotuo Nguzhü of Vizo CC was named Man of the Match.
A short closing ceremony was held and was graced by the chairman of the Dapfhütsumia Youth Organization, Neisedelie Sachü. In his speech, he encouraged the participants to never stop pursuing their dreams.
The winners got Rs 20,000 and the second team went home richer with Rs 10,000. The Man of the Match received Rs 2000 for his efforts.
Through this tournament, the DCC hopes to promote the Gentlemen’s Game of Cricket and foster a sense of friendship and brotherhood among the participants.
