SunLive – Ko and Fox to be joined by Hillier at Paris 2024

Ryan Fox and Lydia Ko will be joined by Olympic debutant Daniel Hillier at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ko heads to the Games hoping to complete her Olympic medal haul, having won silver in Rio 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2020.

“It is an honour to represent New Zealand again at the Olympic Games,” said Ko.

“The experiences of the competitions in Rio and Tokyo were great and I’m looking forward to Paris. My goal is to bring home the gold for New Zealand.”

It is also the third Olympics for Fox, who heads into the Games in good form, having already made the last seven Majors.

Since turning pro in 2012, Fox has played mainly in Europe, but in 2023 he will split his time between the DP World Tour and the US, before moving full-time to the USPGA Tour.

Fox’s results since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been impressive, with multiple top-10 finishes on the DP World Tour and a notable victory at the 2023 BMW PGA Championship.

“I grew up in a family where representing New Zealand was the highest honour. The Olympics provide a unique opportunity to do that and I am delighted to be part of the team again,” said Fox.

“Competing in Paris will be an incredible experience and I look forward to doing my best for New Zealand,” said Fox.

Meanwhile, Hillier, one of New Zealand’s brightest prospects, makes his Olympic debut in Paris.

The 25-year-old has made great strides as a young professional, quickly making the transition from the European Challenge Tour to the DP World Tour.

In 2023, he won the DP World Tour with his victory at the Betfred British Masters.

Hillier is known for his precision and composure, but his game continues to develop and he is eager to take on the challenge of competing at the Olympic Games.

The men’s golf tournament will take place from August 1-4, followed by the women’s tournament from August 7-10.

Both competitions will be held at the prestigious Le Golf National, renowned for its challenging course and stunning scenery.

NZOC CEO Nicki Nicol congratulates the athletes.

“Well done Lydia, Ryan and Daniel for being selected for the New Zealand team,” said Nicol.

“Golf is one of the sports that New Zealanders are keen to support at the Olympic Games and we wish you all the very best as you take to the course in Paris next month.”

Golf was reintroduced at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after a hiatus of 112 years.
