Summoners are calling for changes to LoL’s 3-split ranked system – and Riot is already cooking

During the year, League of Legends Players have had to get used to the consistent grind brought about by the latest Riot ranked. It’s a great incentive to bring players back, but some have voiced some complaints that have been quickly acknowledged by the developers.

On the Competition subreddit, ranked players explained that such a short time to climb leaves little room to make progress on their own in-game goals, especially for those who are too busy with work, other hobbies, and keeping up with friends and family in real life. Life can be unpredictable and hectic, and this new ranked reset system does no favors.

“Four months feels way too short to make meaningful rank progress, especially since you get reset an entire level with every new split,” said one user on the Competition subreddit. “I feel like I’m crawling through 90 percent of the split at low Diamond, and once I get back to my previous rank I’m so mentally exhausted I don’t even want to play the last two weeks I have left.”

Fortunately, the Competition Developers have already been weighing potential tweaks to the system. Riot senior design lead Jordan “BarackProbama” Checkman responded to the massive thread, saying the team is “discussing changes to the current reset structure” as they speak, which bodes well for the player base moving forward.

Constant change can cause a lot of burnout when it comes to the player base, but it seems that many players are in agreement about the undesirable state of the three-split year. One compromise that could satisfy both parties is to have one less ranked reset during the year, so that players are still incentivized to play throughout the year but aren’t discouraged by constant resets.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information once the developers finalize their plans for 2025 and beyond.
