Successful Softball Alumni Game | Cibola Citizen

Former softball players donned their suits and dusted off their gloves and bats as they played in an alumni game last weekend.

The event’s theme, “Once a Pirate Always a Pirate,” brought former players, current players and fans together to reminisce and enjoy the sport of softball. That theme “was deeply felt by everyone who participated and is a true sense that our school’s athletic legacy is shared by everyone who has ever worn that Pirate uniform,” said GHS head softball coach Victor Aldaz.

“The competition was good with several impressive performances throughout the event,” said Aldaz.

A who’s who of Lady Pirate softball alumni won top honors. MVP was alumni Aubrey Trujillo, Jocelyn Garcia won the “Homerun Derby” award, Jasmine Morlang won the “Golden Glove” award for defense, Jesi Mandagaran won the “Angry Jack Jet” award for speedy baserunning.

The aim of the game was to bring together former and current players so that all participants could show off their skills and just have fun.

The Alumni team was “victorious,” but Aldaz emphasized that both teams left the match with a sense of pride and accomplishment as Pirates.

Aldaz summed up the competition by saying, “This event was a testament to the lasting bonds forged through sports and school spirit.
