Strictly star removes statement of support for Graziano Di Prima after Zara McDermott’s statement

A high-profile supporter of Graziano Di Prima has apparently retracted her kind words towards the Italian dancer after Zara McDermott broke her silence on the allegations levelled against the former Strictly dancer.

Graziano Di Prima suffered a blow when a former Strictly Come Dancing star withdrew his support for him after Zara McDermott released an emotional statement.

Earlier this week, the Italian dancer, 30, released his own words following his exit from the dance competition following allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards his 2023 celebrity partner Zara. The former Love Island star, 27, unfollowed Graziano on Instagram on Saturday night within hours of the news being made public.

While Graziano has been vocal about the situation, Susannah Constantine has been among those who have come out in support. Susannah, who appeared on the show in 2018 with current judge Anton du Beke during her time on the dance floor, told Graziano: “What the hell??? You were always so sweet, kind, funny and thoughtful to me Graziano. Be true to yourself. Cream always comes out on top. Lots of love xxxx.” However, the fashion journalist’s comment has apparently since been deleted.

It comes after Zara spoke out about the situation early on Tuesday morning. She wrote on Instagram: “I felt it was right to post about the recent media reports. Strictly is one of the most magical shows on TV and one that I have dreamed of since I was a little girl.

“When I was invited to join the show, it was truly a childhood dream come true. I fully understood how much dedication and hard work Strictly would bring and I dedicated myself to it. I am a resilient person and I was fully prepared to do whatever it took.

“And so much of my Strictly experience was everything I could ever have dreamed of. The entire production team and everyone behind the scenes, as well as my fellow contestants, were so wonderful to work with. My experience in the training room, however, was very different. There have been reports about my treatment on the show and there have been witnesses to some of the events, as well as videos of certain incidents which are incredibly painful to watch.”

She continued: “I’ve struggled with the fear of opening up – I was afraid of public backlash, I was afraid of my future, I was afraid of victim shaming. But after many conversations with people I love, I was given the strength to face these fears, and when I was asked to speak to the BBC, I spoke candidly about my time on the show.”

Zara concluded by saying: “The culture within our society makes it difficult for people to speak out, especially in a world where opinions and voices are so loud on social media. This is something I have seen through working with countless women on my documentaries. I would like to thank the BBC and BBC Studios for their swift action and incredible level of support, as well as everyone who has reached out to me – it really means a lot. Love, always. Zara.” The support offered to Graziano in response to his post by Kelvin Fletcher currently stands.
