‘Matlock’ Series Premiere | CBS, Watch With a Free 7-Day Trial of Paramount+ with SHOWTIME

The new version of “Matlock” stars Kathy Bates as the brilliant septuagenarian Madeline “Matty” Matlock, who, after achieving success in her younger years, decides to return to work at a prestigious law firm, where she uses her unassuming demeanor and cunning tactics to win cases and expose corruption from within.

It’s hard to imagine anyone stepping into Andy Griffith’s shoes as the titular attorney, but if anyone can, it’s Bates. She has the perfect balance of charismatic charm and dramatic heft to elevate the character beyond a cliché that’s best left behind, and into a new time and place where she may be consistently underestimated, but she’s never underprepared.
