Starting lineup F1 Spanish GP after three penalties

For the first time in three years, Lando Norris will start a Formula 1 Grand Prix from pole position, after overshadowing Max Verstappen in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Norris beat Verstappen to take his second ever F1 pole with what he described as “probably the best lap” of his career to date.

Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez qualified eighth, but a three-place grid penalty at the Canadian GP pushes him back to 11th and promotes Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri and Fernando Alonso one place each.

Logan Sargeant also has a grid penalty: three places after hindering Stroll in qualifying. But despite this penalty, he will actually start higher than he qualified, namely 20th.

This is because his Williams teammate Alex Albon has had the energy storage and control electronics unit of his FW46 replaced, without the approval of the FIA technical delegate – meaning a pit lane start.

Albon is now above the season limit for both energy storage and control electronics, but the start in the pit lane means that the resulting grid penalties have no influence on this.
