Stars, Photos, & Cosplay – Our Extensive Retrospective

It was that time of year again as New York Comic Con delivers a vast four-day celebration of fandoms, movies, TV, comics, art, artists, cosplay, celebrities, and so much more to hundreds of thousands of passionate fans. Each year, Awards Radar heads to the Javits Center on Manhattan’s east side to cover as much as humanly possible, as you have seen on the site over the past few weeks.

In case you missed any of it, we compiled this retrospective of our 2024 coverage in one convenient place, along with an extensive collection of previously unreleased exclusive photos and reports on as many panels as we could cover.

The event was packed with captivating panels, parties, and a sea of fans celebrating their favorite fandoms among their peers. On the ground covering it all with me were The ‘Verse!‘s Emilia Yu, NYCC mainstay Norm Felker, and for the first time ever attendee, Lucas Longacre. The team was on the floor for the entire four-day event, covering dozens of hours of panels, speaking with artists from all fields—cosplay, comics, film, television—and taking it all in.

Some of our impressive numbers (if I do say so myself) include:
25 panels covered, 7 press rooms, 2 exclusive parties, 2000+ photos and videos, over two dozen interviews, over 100 hours in the Javits Center, and an estimated combined walking total of 175 miles… plus the consumption of 3 promotional Chicken Big Macs.

So many panels, so much geekdom, so little time. Live at NYCC were Colin Farrell, Ella Purnell, Jason Segel, Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Cristin Milioti, Brian Cox, Bruce Campbell, and Peyton List – just to name a few of the celebs and artists providing unique, intimate fan experiences to the masses. I think Arthur C. Clarke said it best, “My God, it’s full of stars!”

Even with our very ambitious team on-site, the event was too big for any one outlet to cover fully—but we gave it our all. We think you will enjoy all of our coverage, including exclusive photos, trailers, and interviews below, and stay tuned for more next year. Until then we will be resting our feet.

The Penguin

NYCC started off in style with a packed house in the Empire Room where Academy-Award nominee Colin Farrell and the cast of HBOs acclaimed series shared never seen before footage and a Q&A about the series which continues the Matt Reeves Batman universe.

While much attention has been given to Farrell’s incredible physical transformation into The Penguin, the true strength of the series lies in the humanity of its characters. Under the guidance of Reeves and showrunner Lauren LeFranc, each character is given extraordinary depth, making them far more than one-dimensional scene fillers. Cristin Milioti, who portrays The Penguin’s rival, Sofia Falcone, delivers an Emmy-worthy performance that ranks among the best in the long history of Batman adaptations.

After the panel, Awards Radar sat down with LeFranc and several cast members, including Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz (Victor Aguilar), Deirdre O’Connell (Francis Cobb), and Michael Kelly (Johnny Viti) for conversations revealing the thought, care, and creativity visible in each episode of The Penguin are just the tip of the iceberg— as always os the case on Gotham there’s much more beneath the surface. Watch and read interview EXCLUSIVE PRESS ROOM INTERVIEWS and highlights, here.

All episodes of The Penguin are now streaming on Max.

Shrinking

Much of that cast was at New York Comic Con with a panel discussing the second season of the series beginning with the announcement of an early season 3 renewal. The panel was a love fest which included cast members Jason Segel (co-creator and also nominated for his role as Jimmy, interviewed last time by Joey here), Jessica Williams (Gaby), Luke Tenie (Sean), Lukita Maxwell (Alice), Christa Miller (who plays Liz and was also our 3rd guest on TV Topics), Ted McGinley (Derek), Michael Urie (Brian) and show co-creator Brett Goldstein, covered the series growth as it expands into a second season, including some big guests stars for season two. Read the full coverage and more pics here.

Shrinking season two is now streaming on Apple TV+ with new episodes releasing each Tuesday.

Bear McCreary: Musical World-Building

Bear McCreary, known for his powerful scores in The Walking Dead, God of War: Ragnarok, and The Rings of Power, takes the stage at New York Comic Con with graphic novel writers and artists Kyle Higgins, Mat Groom, Ramon K. Perez, and singer and songwriter Rufus Wainwright. But he’s not here as a composer to promote someone else’s work. He’s here to discuss an intensely personal project: The Singularity

This new concept album and graphic novel marks McCreary’s leap into full creative control, stepping beyond the composer role to build his own story. The album, packed with genre-spanning artists like System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, Guns N’ Roses’ Slash, and art pop’s Rufus Wainwright, blends genres to craft a story centered on “Blue Eyes,” a character repeatedly reborn yet bound by painful memories across multiversal journeys.

Even simple collaboration can be a challenge, let alone on this scale with over 50 creatives involved. But to hear McCreary and his collaborators describe it, their work together could only be described as pure, what a young aspiring artist might imagine before the realities of budgets, deadlines, and “creative differences.”

McCreary interviewed his collaborators on the tyranny of the blank page, the beauty of collaboration when everyone “commits to the bit,” and the most effective way to shake yourself out of a creative rut. Hint: it’s really helpful to take walks!

Netflix Presents THE ELECTRIC STATE

Netflix Presents The Electric State panel was full of robots, big-named directors and superstars on the first day of NYCC. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo and stars Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt gave fans an in-depth look at their upcoming retro-futuristic Netflix film based in an alternate 1997, about an orphaned teen’s journey to find her brother in a post-apocalyptic world after the robot uprising.

The Electric State which is rumored to have a $300+ million dollar budget was something Pratt was moved by.  “It’s not the kind of thing that typically gets made to be a blockbuster style movie like this. It’s so original, it’s a huge swing,“ said Pratt. “I thought that these types of movies might be my last opportunity to be in a big movie like this. I have to look at every opportunity like that. And I did. It’s just such a great story. I was moved to tears reading.”

The film based on the Simon Stålenhag graphic novel looks like vast adventure combined with a cautionary tale about becoming too reliant on technology, as well as a family drama that just happens to include sentient robots. The film also stars Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci and Woody Norman, plus robots voiced by Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate and Alan Tudyk (he’s everywhere).

“It truly takes you on a journey,” shared Brown. “Escapism is so huge. I think it’s so lovely for families to have that moment where they’re able to take themselves out of this world that is so scary and put themselves into a world that is so transformative.”

The Electric State hits Netflix on March 14, 2025. Watch the trailer and view our exclusive panel pics below.

The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim

Moderated by LOTR superfan, Stephen Colbert, the panel shared exclusive footage and cast and producers insights into the upcoming animated expansion of middleearth, Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Included on the panel were voice stars Brian Cox (Helm Hammerhand), Luke Pasqualino (Wulf) and Gaia Wise (Héra) as well as director Kenji Kamiyama, producers Philippa Boyens, Jason DeMarco Joseph Chou and writers Arty Papageorgiou & Phoebe Gittins.

The conversation was a deep dive in bring the world of J. R. R. Tolkien to life highlighted by the animated antics of Brian Cox. The actor who just about always seems a little be annoyed to be where ever he unexpectedly is put on a hilarious display of his first childhood fight – it involved oddly him throwing himself to the ground and beating himself up to fend off bullies instead of taking their beating.

The actor also answered a fan’s question in the most perfect Logan Roy-esque way possible. When asked how he got into character to play Hammerhand, without dropping his trademark F-bomb catchphrase, Cox provided the shortest, snarkiest answer possible, “There’s a little something called imagination.” Somehow even from fifty feet away on a stage, the man is intimidating which may explain why the 78 year old was cast to play the powerful player.

The official synopsis describes the film as such: Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg — a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.

The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim releases on December 13th.

You can find photos from the panel below as well as a new BTS feature.

What We Do in the Shadows (FX) – Moderated Q&A and Exclusive Advance Screening – THE BATS ARE BACK!

Live from New York Comic Con were the undead vamps of Staten Island and FX’s What We Do In the Shadows to discuss the sixth and final season of the beloved series. The proof of its popularity was the packed front to back Empire room who went batty when treated to the first two episodes of the sixth season of the series.

The screenings were followed by a Q&A with much of the cast including Matt Berry (Lazlo Cravensworth), Kayvan Novak (Nandor the Relentless), Harvey Guillen (Guillermo) and Mark Proksch (Colin Robinson) – missing was Natasia Demetriou (Nadja). The cast was also joined by  showrunner/executive producer Paul Simms, writer/executive producer Sam Johnson, and director/executive producer Sarah Naftalis.

Below are some of Awards Radar’s EXCLUSIVE PRESS ROOM INTERVIEWS and original photos from the event. Read our one on one interviews with the cast/producers here.

Season six is now airing on FX with new episodes dropping on Mondays, then streaming on Hulu.

School Spirits

School Spirits had a loyal fanbase that has blown up since the Paramount+ series reached a wider audience on Netflix where the series remained in the top 10 most watched TV series for almost two months straight. The NYCC panel was a love fest with the cast (Peyton List, Kristian Ventura, Nick Pugliese and Sarah Yarkin) sharing their appreciation for the other’s work, talking about bringing each other to tears and generosity of List who brought the cast and crew roses on one of the last days of shooting.

Showrunner, Oliver Goldstick, revealed some hints about where season two will take viewers. “We had very much a whodunit in the first season. The second season, we had to embrace the how and why, which is more supernatural,” he explained. “I feel like the idea is still a metaphor about losing your life, about isolation, about your spirit being crushed and the idea of trying to reunite the body with its spirit, I just thought it was a great engine that we could write to.”

As season one closed out, fans were given quite the cliffhanger (spoilers ahead) the biggest being Maddie’s possession by the spirit of Janet, a character discussed but never seen on screen. To play Maddie this season required List to play her as two different characters, the real Maddie and the one possessed by Janet (played by Jess Gabor).

The actresses collaborated to ensure the Maddie/Janet had a different feel. “We were both just having to watch each other,” shared List. “I was working with Jess whenever we had time off to kind of create this teenager from the 1950s, which was really fun. I was studying Jess’s physicality and mannerisms, finding this character together, which is really, really cool. I’m really excited for you guys to see her in the part.” The panelists also dropped the first teaser for season two for attendees, below. Season two will be arriving in early 2025.

Spongebob Squarepants 25th Anniversary Celebration

Once a Spongebob fan, always a Spongebob fan. The voice cast and executive producers were on the Empire Stage at NYCC to roaring applause to celebrate 25 years of giggly, knee-slapping, silly imagination. Legendary voices Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton), along with Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller discussed the legacy of one cartoon sponge and the rich world of Bikini Bottom.

They also shared some upcoming news and specials. Nick has renewed The Patrick Star Show for seasons four and five. Audience members also got a first look at the half-hour 25th anniversary special, “Snow Yellow and the Seven Jellies” slated to air November 24th and the stop-motion anniversary special “Spongebob & Sandy’s Country Christmas,” premiering in December.

There were even more surprises in store for the audience when the cast delivered not one, but TWO separate table reads, one segment from the fan favorite “Band Geeks” and another from “Scaredy Pants.”

We look forward to another 25 years of Spongebob especially since, according to Carolyn Lawrence, the crew is now about three-quarters childhood fans! Oof, I feel old. But we know the show is in good hands, as Kenny tells us with a signature spongy chuckle: “From the very beginning, even before there was one animated frame of SpongeBob, he was on paper. There was that show bible that Stephen (Hillenburg) made and it was all in there…and as long as you stick to that roadmap, you’ll be ok.”

Peacock Presents: Satanic Panic Horror Thriller
Hysteria! Panel

The Peacock pop-horror thriller series starring Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, and Bruce Campbell held a panel in a way that only Campbell could. Sorry to disappoint but there were chainsaws, boomsticks, or spellbooks, but there were plenty of wisecracks and perhaps a demon or two as fans got a sneak peak of the 30-minutes of the series and a lively conversation from the cast. Enjoy a little of the panel energy (below) as well as some exclusive pics. You can also watch Awards Radar’s in-depth interviews by Jeff Heller with the cast here.

Hysteria! is now streaming in its entirety on Peacock.

The Simpsons

The Simpsons panel drew a massive crowd, marking the 35 year old show’s first-ever appearance at the event, featuring series creator Matt Groening, longtime voice actor Hank Azaria, showrunner Matt Selman, and writers Tim Long and Carolyn Omine. The panel was filled with humor and behind-the-scenes insights, with Azaria did a deep dive into his iconic Comic Book Guy character, comparing New York City to Springfield and Gotham. Groening reflected on the origins of the show, recalling how The Simpsons was conceived as a primetime animated sitcom for adults, a concept he doubted would catch on until he spotted a “bootleg” Bart Simpson shirt on the streets of New York with Bart and Nelson Mandella, confirming the show’s cultural impact.

As the panel was a delight for longtime fans as it delved into the show’s long legacy, Azaria also shared stories of how his characters evolved, like Moe’s distinctive voice, which started as a “young Al Pacino” impression before becoming the gravelly baritone fans know today. The writers spoke about character development, highlighting how voices and animation contribute to bringing characters to life, and joked about the possibility of the show lasting forever with the help of AI. Groening had many attendees groaning if they did not line up to ask a question. The lucky few who did get to the mic were treated to one of a kind character sketches done by Groening himself.

Inside the Haunting World of The Fall of the House of Usher:
A Panel with Mike Flanagan & Cast

Mike Flanagan has been creeping out audiences for years, with films and series like,  The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher. Fans of his work should recognize familiar faces that appear across several of his work, a trusted troupe of actors self-nicknamed The Flavengers. Some of them assembled including Carla Gugino, Kate Siegel (who is also Flanagan’s wife), and Rahul Kohli for a spirited conversation which was not terrifying, but rather filled with a lot of love, laughs and plenty of insights into past and upcoming projects including the new The Exorcist film he is directing – just do not expect a sequel or a remake.

“My goal is to make the scariest movie I’ve ever made – trying to make something that scares the shit out of me,” shared Flanagan. “The Exorcist is one of those movies that was incredibly formative for me. I saw it too young and it fucked me up. They’ve made so many sequels, prequels, and none have come close. You can’t do The Exorcist. There’s no point in remaking it. There’s no point in trying to do that story again or better than the way it was done. So you have to do something new. And you have to do something that rhymes with it and that harmonizes with it, but that isn’t trying to replace it.”

Since Flanagan’s work on the film adaptation of  Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game (starring Gugino) his relationship with the often reclusive King has grown into quite a friendship, including a steady stream of texts. Flanagan has two new King projects in the works The Life of Chuck (which he called his favorite film he’s worked on by “a lot”) and the highly anticipated The Gunslinger series. The book series has had a tough time getting a faithful adaptation to the screen, including several failed attempts the never materialized and a widely panned feature film.

So what is Flanagan’s approach? “The only way to do it is to just do the books,” said the director. “The thing about The Dark Tower that’s so incredible is Stephen King builds an astonishing universe and it’s huge, populated with such a richness of characters and scale and scope,” shared Flanagan. “He starts that story with one person following another person in the barren desert.”

“The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.” – starts The Gunslinger.

“It’s one of the greatest opening lines of all time. That’s how you do it. You start with two people and a simple story. One is trying to catch the other. That’s it.”

If that is not enough, Flanagan is also developing an eight-episode Carrie TV series for Prime Video based on King’s 1974 novel. Much more was discussed. You can find the full panel here along with exclusive Awards Radar pics below.

Star Trek Universe

The Star Trek Universe panel was a surprise-filled celebration of both the franchise’s legacy and its future. Thousands of fans watched the Lower Decks season five premiere together, before a Q&A with showrunner, Mike McMahan and stars Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Eugene Cordero, and Noël Wells. In a panel full of surprises, one of the biggest came early when McMahan revealed this NYCC panel was the first time the four stars were ever in the same room together during the full run of the series. Between stories shared by the cast, the showrunner described how special it is to see Lower Decks resonating so strongly with fans. “This is the victory lap, the final season… I couldn’t be prouder of the 50 episodes,”

Robert Picardo made a surprise appearance to build the excitement for Starfleet Academy, on which he will be starring. The series has all-star cast, which includes not only established character actors like Picardo, Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti but also a talented group of young actors, who were beamed in via live stream from Toronto to discuss the series, ready to bring fresh perspectives and stories into the Star Trek universe. Alex Kurtzman introduced the new cast members, saying, “These are amazing cadets… It’s so exciting to have young talent alongside legends.”

“Strange New Worlds is startling in its success because you embraced it… It’s because of you we get to do a season three and get to do this season four after that.”

The creators were quick to acknowledge the incredible support from fans, and the crowd’s reaction reinforced how Strange New Worlds has become a favorite in the Star Trek universe. I feel confident that Season 3 will continue to deliver at the high level fans have come to expect. Also taking the stage were Carol Kane who joined the series in season two and Mr. Spock himself, Ethan Peck.

Fans were also treated to a sneak peek at new Section 31 posters during a panel featuring a conversation with cast members Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl and Robert Kazinsky, along with executive producer and director Olatunde Osunsanmi. Another special guest was Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh, joining via stream to share her excitement for the film.  Yeoh plays Emperor Philippa Georgiou who you may remember from Star Trek: Discovery. She joins a secret division of Starfleet whose goal is to protect the United Federation of Planets while dealing with her past sins.

Max Original Animation Presents: Creature Commandos

James Gunn and the cast of his highly anticipated Max animated series Creature Commandos took the stage, offering a glimpse into a bold new chapter in the DC Universe he promises to exceed expectations. Gunn, who serves as the series’ executive producer and writer, was joined by fellow executive producer Dean Lorey, along with voice cast members Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.), David Harbour (Frankenstein), Zoë Chao (Nina Mazursky), Steve Agee (Economos), Maria Bakalova (Princess Ilana), Alan Tudyk (Dr. Phosphorus), and Sean Gunn (GI Robot and Weasel). The panel featured a trailer and a conversation that teased what’s to come and the origins of each character, which was described as “terrifying.”  Announced guest stars will include Viola Davis, Linda Cardellini, and Michael Rooker.

Gunn also provided some updates about his upcoming and highly-anticipated Superman film starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. “We’re deep in the process of editing. David Corenswet is going to fucking blow people away. He is the movie star that everyone just dreams he could possibly be. I don’t think anyone really understands the depth of this guy’s talent dramatically, comedically. He’s the best physical action star I’ve probably ever worked with.” The director also confirmed the presence of Superman’s dog Krypto and teased a drop date for the first trailer saying, “It won’t be too long before we see a trailer, but it also won’t be too soon.”

The Creature Commandos release date is set for on Thursday, December 5.

“Sweetpea” Screening and Q&A with Ella Purnell

The new Starz series, Sweetpea, has a bit of a dark side to say the least. After a screening of the pilot episode, series star and executive producer Ella Purnell, sat down to discuss her serial killer character with a smile.

She plays Rhiannon, a woman with a kill list. After years of feeling ignored and the death of her father, she begins to take violent revenge against the world by committing a series of murders, acting out her rage in bloody gruesome ways.

During the panel Purnell discussed taking on the role of both lead character and producer. “The way they pitched it to me was, ‘We want to tell the story about a female serial killer, and it’s going to be a comedy.’ Immediately, it was like, ‘Yes, I’m in,’” said Purnell.  “Then they said, we really want to make the audience feel confused. We want to conflict the audience and try to get them to relate to Rhiannon’s emotions, her motivations, obviously, not her actions. And that seems difficult, and therefore, I wanted to do it. “

Below are our exclusive photos from the panel. The series is now streaming in its entirety on STARZ.

House of the Dragon:
A Conversation with Matt Smith, Fabien Frankel and Tom Glynn-Carney

Several stars from HBO Max’s House of the Dragon took the Empire stage at NYCC to chat, relive the best and worst of season two, and hear some burning questions from fans that they may regret answering.

Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon Targaryen), Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole) couldn’t share any season three news for anxious fans, but the energy in the room was on point anyway. We didn’t get any spoilers but we did learn that the actors go through quite a lot to prepare for their roles. Who has it worse between the uncomfortable bald caps and wigs, the heavy clanky armor, or the various prosthetics needed to bring a character to life? Add on top of that the need to learn High Valyrian!

Of course, the actors prep even longer internally. Without going into too much detail, all three of the panelist’s characters are…morally dubious to say the least. The cast discussed the mental gymnastics and justifications they go through to embody their roles and act faithfully as the hero of their own story.

In other news, we also learned some exciting trivia. Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen) might be the most likely to have the show’s theme song on repeat at the gym (unsurprising), Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower) is the most likely to have no idea what’s happening in a scene beyond his character (could’ve fooled us!), and Paddy Considine (Viserys Targaryen) is most likely to have an iron throne at home. We saw that last one coming after our very own Steven Prusakowski spoke with him on the TV Topics podcast.

The cast got in some hot water as well on some questions when Smith revealed that he has never seen all the Star Wars films, Glynn-Carney hasn’t seen Lord of the Rings (shame!), and Frankel…doesn’t really get the hype around avocadoes.

Futurama

This year, after their panel, Awards Radar spoke with Lee Supercinski (Producer), Claudi Katz (Executive Producer), Peter Avanzino (Supervising Director), John DiMaggio (Voice Actor), and Matt Groening (Creator). All of whom were in high spirits from the crowd’s energy at the panel.

Feeding off of that energy, Groening was quick to address how Futurama’s fan base had saved the show. “In reruns of the cartoon, people finally, over years and years, caught on to it, and now it’s beloved. And we are doing great now. Hulu loves us.” This is good news for any Futurama fan. The Journeyman show originally started on the Fox Network before moving to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim to air reruns. Then, after a surge in popularity, the show moved to a new home on Comedy Central. Only to be canceled four years later. But in Hulu, Groening believes they have finally found their home.

Hannibal Reunion Panel

Oh Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal, will we ever let you go? Of course not! Though the cult favorite series aired its final episodes nearly ten years ago, the Empire Stage of NYCC drew a crowd to see stars Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy. The gruesome, gory, high-art series cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase still waiting to see what became of Hannibal and Will. It doesn’t help that the creators keep teasing season four.

Mikkelsen and Dancy reunited to reminisce about the joys and stresses of their tenure on the show. Every episode was exciting and surprising (sometimes in a last-minute-script kind of way), and the stars commented on the remarkable legacy of the work.

“The sense of belonging has become a key word. These two characters are somehow on the outskirts of society, and they find each other,” explains Mikkelsen. “That sense of belonging has been important to a lot of people and it’s fantastic that the show can help out.”

As a fan myself, I was excited to hear some fun facts. Mikkelsen has been involved in every franchise under the sun, but not Star Trek…and he’s also not interested. But he is a huge zombie fan so if The Walking Dead is looking for a zombie killer turned a zombie that inexplicably gets a ton of leading man screen time…you know who to call.

Dancy on the other hand has been busy reading Harry Potter to his children so if anyone at HBO wants to give him a call for the reboot, he says “my entire audience is a six year old, but the reviews are pretty good.”

As we await a potential season four, we know at least one thing on the schedule for our protagonists. According to Mikkelsen, Hannibal “would love to kill someone and then eat them.” And according to Dancy, “Will would like to figure out who’s doing all this killing and eating!”

Sounds like perfection to us.

 Elsbeth

In season one of CBS’s murder mystery series, Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) took New York by storm with her unconventional skill for solving crimes. This week Elsbeth took New York Comic Con by storm with a panel packed with a sea of fans sporting Statue of Liberty/Elsbeth foam crowns to celebrate the second season of the hit series.

The panel included a sneak peek screening of this season’s Halloween episode, a Q&A with series stars Carrie Preston, Wendell Pierce (Captain Wagner), Creators/Executive Producers Michelle and Robert King, and Showrunner/EP Jonathan Tolins. Adding to the fandom fun, the panel was moderated by the Elsbeth guest star, Laura Bennati – who will return for season two.

The panel concluded with a special appearance by Preston’s ‘dream guest star,’ none other than her real-life husband, the incomparable Michael Emerson. A TV mainstay, fans will recognize him from other King series, including Evil and Person of Interest. To the delight of attendees, it was announced that he would have a recurring role in season two as ‘a murderous judge… a really bad guy,’ as Emerson described. ‘A change of pace for me,’ he joked.

Watch the full interviews with the cast and creative team, here.

COSPLAY

As promised, NYCC always delivers plenty of cosplay. Below are just a small sampling of some of our favorites that we were able to snap photos of. Look for more cosplay coverage in the upcoming episode of The ‘Verse! where we speak to some of the artists who wear their fandom for all to see. (Photos by Emilia Yu and Norm Felker)
