Star Wars Outlaws’ ‘unfair’ Instant Fail Stealth Missions a ‘mistake,’ developer admits, patch coming next week

According to the lead developer of Star Wars Outlaws, a patch is coming soon that will address the game’s controversial stealth missions that fail on sight.

Creative director Julian Gerighty admitted to GamesRadar that the missions were “incredibly punishing” and would therefore be fixed quickly. “For me, that’s a flaw and it’s something we’re going to work on to improve,” he said.

“I don’t think we should do away with the fail state altogether, but I do think there are millions of easy-to-pick fruits that we can make much more fun and understandable.”

Gerighty continued: “I think it feels unfair. And believe it or not, that wasn’t our intention. This is more something that just crept in over the last week or so, and we’re already fixing it for a patch that might be coming out in 10 days.”

Gerighty made this comment on September 7, 2024, so after 10 days the patch would be released next Tuesday, September 17.

This is likely just one of the ways Gerighty wants to improve Star Wars Outlaws, as the creative director has already said he’s “a little disappointed” with the film’s review scores and wants to continue improving the film for a long time to come.

In our 7/10 review of the game, IGN said, “Star Wars Outlaws is a fun intergalactic heist adventure with plenty of exploration, but it’s hampered by simple stealth action, repetitive combat, and a few too many bugs at launch.”

Ubisoft shares fell in value following the release of Star Wars Outlaws, with some analysts predicting lower-than-expected sales of the game. Ubisoft has not yet commented on its performance.
