Standings Summary: Brunswick Seniors Invitational 2024

The second annual Brunswick Seniors Invitational at Bowlarama Wetherill Park in New South Wales saw intense competition and notable performances over the weekend. The event, the fourth in the TBA senior and grand senior nationally ranked series for 2024, featured the familiar 18-game format across two appearances, resulting in some big scores.

Victorian Dena Buxton claimed victory in the women’s division, with a total of 3,735 and an impressive average of 207.5. Buxton’s brilliant first day set her up for victory, as she held scores above 201 in the first nine games, her first day total of +139 was electrifying. Returning on day two to record a game high of 248 in game two, the Victorian’s title marks Buxton’s second national title of 2024, following her success at the John Sullivan Senior Australian Open earlier this year. With a maximum of 100 points remaining, Buxton closes in on leader Samantha Matthews with just one event remaining.

Madeline FitzRoy from the ACT took second place, 128 pins behind Buxton, marking her highest achievement for 2024. The podium was completed by Samantha Matthews from Western Australia, who remains the number one ranked senior female bowler for 2024 despite finishing 172 pins behind Buxton on the weekend.

The competition was fierce, with only 86 points separating the top four. However, Ashley Riley started off well, scoring 947 points in the first four games. He was the man to take the win.

Gosford City bowler Troy Byrne finished second, just 27 pins behind Riley. Byrne, who scored the highest game in the male division with a 289, has enjoyed an impressive year with two top 20 finishes, resulting in his first podium finish of 2024 at the weekend. Victorian Alan Notman took third, continuing his confident performance after his recent victory at the SA Seniors Classic.
