Stage Set for Vibrant Capitol Hill Parade on July 4

It’s going to be scorching hot on the 4th of July, so prepare for a thrilling parade starting at 10am on Thursday!

Temperatures will already be in the 80s as the parade begins at Eighth Street and Virginia Avenue SE. The Eastern High School Blue and White Marching Machine will lead the parade north to Eastern Market Plaza.

The shady side of the street is on the east side, so secure your spot early. Visitors to the Saavy parade know to bring water, fans, sunscreen and chairs. Children often bring bags to collect the candy and other fun items thrown away by the protesters, especially the Men and Women in Blue of Ready, Willing and Working (RWW) who fill their tubs with candy.

The parade will be attended by local schools, organisations, teams and businesses and is expected to last until 12pm.

Break a world record

After the parade: break a Guinness World Record! Barracks Row Main Street (BRMS) wants to try to make the largest human ice cream cone in the world. The attempt will take place right after the parade, so keep playing.

Participants should meet at the stage under the Eastern Market Metro Plaza Pavillion to receive instructions once the parade is over. Participants will receive a free scoop of ice cream!

The current record was set on December 18, 2019 by 478 participants, all employees at Nestlé in Qingdao, Shandong, China.

The July 4 attempt is an official Guinness World Record Event! It can be certified on site, but at least 480 people must participate to do it! Help get Barracks Row (and Capitol Hill) on the books!
