Spurs want to sign English star in January

Spurs don’t want to wait to sign Angel Gomes.

The Lille midfielder is in the final 10 months of his contract in France and after an impressive debut for England last week his value has increased.

The 24-year-old came through the youth ranks at Manchester United before seeking more first-team opportunities in 2020. And now at Lille, the London-born Gomes has continued his predicted development and remains one of Bruno Genesio’s most important players.

Gomes was given his first call-up to the England squad against Ireland in the Nations League, making his debut as a substitute and being used as a playmaker by interim manager Lee Carsley in the country’s 2-0 away win at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Carsley said of the Lille star player after the match, quoted by Metro: “He fully deserves it and it is good that the performances you saw today are comparable to the performances of the last three or four years.”

Spurs considering Angel Gomes transfer mid-season but midfielder warned over move

According to a recent report from Fichajes, Gomes’ consistent, mature performances have caught the attention of Spurs as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his midfield options.

Angel Gomes played excellently for England during the last international break.

Although Spurs were looking to potentially move Gomes in January, Spurs’ hopes of reaching a deal mid-season may have been damaged by Carsley’s advice to the young midfielder to stay for the time being.

“It is important that he continues to work hard, as he will do, and that he continues to play in France because it will be a difficult squad to keep up with.” the England manager added.

Although Gomes will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season if he does not extend his contract with Lille, competition for his signature is expected to increase.
