Springboks number 8 Jasper Wiese is heading to Japan, where he will play for Urayasu D-Rocks for the 2024/2025 season, the club announced on Monday.

Wiese left Premier League club Leicester Tigers at the end of the season, having joined the club from the Cheetahs in 2020.

He joins the club alongside former Springbok coach Johan Ackermann, having seen the team promoted to the first division next season.

“I am very excited to be a member of the Urayasu D-Rocks. I am looking forward to being part of the squad and will do my best in every match to help the team win,” Wiese said on the official website of the Japanese club.

“I will do my best in every match to contribute to the team’s victory, so I ask all fans for your support.”

Wiese, who was capped 27 times by South Africa, was on the substitute bench during the Rugby World Cup final against the All Blacks in France in October.

Wiese is still serving a six-match ban for unfair play in a Premiership match last month. His suspension means he will be unavailable for the upcoming tests in Ireland and Portugal and the two Rugby Championship matches against Australia in August.
