Two Aces in Marietta

Two golfers hit holes-in-one at Marietta Country Club on Tuesday. First, Kirk Schultheis reached hole No. 3, a 100-yard par 3. His shot was attended by Dan Boone, Glen Goertler and Ken Terry. Two hours later, Joe Moore reached hole No. 17, a 127-yarder. His shot was witnessed by Jim Huggins, Jeff Welch, Rodney Harris and Roy Hammond.

Callihan Aces GCWV

Tom Callihan, of Belpre, made his second hole-in-one at the Golf Club of West Virginia. It happened on hole No. 12, a 110-yard par 3. Callihan used a 7 iron. Witnesses to the event were Tony Rebaolz, Fred Cross and Mike Conrad.

Summer running for Jackson MS Cross Country

Jackson Middle School’s summer cross country run is Monday and Wednesday starting this Monday from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Meet in the parking lot near the football field. Everyone, boys and girls from groups 6 to 8, is welcome.

Wirt County Sports HOF Nominees Wanted

Nominations for the second class for the Wirt County Sports Hall of Fame are open through Friday, June 28.

Six candidates will be accepted into the 2024 class, but the criteria used for the first class, which required nominees to be born and raised in Wirt County, no longer applies.

All 2024 nominees will be on an automatic transfer list for three years before they must be nominated again to be eligible for voting consideration by the committee.

Anyone wishing to nominate a former player, coach or someone who has served the community must provide their name, their phone number, the nominee’s name, phone number and email address, the nominee’s year of graduation (please note, if this is not Wirt County) and the reasons why he should do so. considered via email to [email protected].
