Sparks star rookie Cameron Brink is carted off the field with a knee injury vs. Sun

Los Angeles Sparks rookie center Cameron Brink was stretchered off the field after suffering a knee injury against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday.

The Sparks confirmed this during halftime that the injury was to Brink’s knee and announced that she would not return to the match. Head coach Curt Miller did not provide details on her condition after the game. She will be further evaluated on Wednesday.

The Sun won the game 79-70. Brink played four minutes before her injury. Backup center Li Yueru played 26 minutes for the Sparks, scoring 11 points, three assists, one steal and one block.

The injury occurred halfway through the first quarter. Brink fell to the court after contact with Suns forward Brionna Jones while driving to the basket. She awkwardly planted her leg and immediately grabbed her left knee as she fell to the track. She struggled to get up, but got up with the help of her teammates.

She was able to stagger to the sideline under her own power, but was carried off the field by trainers upon reaching the bench.

Through the 14 games before Tuesday, she averaged 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.4 blocks and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 39.8% from the floor and 32.3% shot from a distance of 3 points. She was recently selected as a member of the Team USA 3×3 basketball team for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

The Sparks fell to 4-11 with Tuesday’s loss. The Sun improved to a WNBA-best 13-1.
