Space Marine 2 Most Successful Steam Launch for Warhammer 40K Series

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has gotten off to a strong start on Steam, even becoming the most-played Warhammer game in terms of peak concurrent player counts on Valve’s platform.

At the time of writing, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has an all-time Steam peak of 225,690 players. For comparison, Total War: Warhammer 3 has an all-time peak of 166,754.

Total War: Warhammer 3, which was released in 2022, once held the record for the highest number of players of all time for a Warhammer game. It now holds the second place. 2016’s Total War: Warhammer, meanwhile, has a peak concurrent player count of 113,019.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 released earlier this week on PC, and is also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. We called the campaign a “spectacular and largely thrilling sequel to the original” in Eurogamer’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 review, giving it three out of five stars.

Digital Foundry also took a look at the latest Warhammer release. While Tom Morgan found that Space Marine 2 “impresses” on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S consoles, it “flails” a bit on PlayStation 5. The team also called it a “technologically ambitious sequel that could look stunning” on PC.

Elsewhere in the news, and in case you missed it, Focus Entertainment, publisher of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, recently clarified that players do not need to link their Steam account to Epic Games in order to play.
