Sources – Alabama Agrees to Record Deal with GM Courtney Morgan

Alabama football general manager Courtney Morgan has agreed to a new, groundbreaking contract with the Crimson Tide after USC approached him over the summer, sources confirmed to ESPN on Monday night.

Morgan will earn an average of $825,000 per year under the three-year contract, a deal that cements his position as college football’s highest-paid front office figure. The new deal was approved Monday by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees, but sources tell ESPN the updated contract has been in the works for some time.

Morgan’s increased salary figures were first reported by 247Sports.

Morgan, the general manager who led Washington to a national 2024 ranking, is among college football’s fastest-rising stars, both in the front office and personnel.

Morgan spent the past two seasons with Kalen Deboer in Washington, following the 49-year-old coach to Alabama earlier this year when the Crimson Tide hired Deboer to replace Nick Saban. The former Michigan, San Jose State and Fresno State executive has been instrumental in assembling a 2025 recruiting class that ranks No. 2 in ESPN’s latest team rankings for the cycle.

Morgan’s success has drawn interest from around the country. Sources told ESPN that after USC attempted to hire Morgan for a similar staff position in Southern California this summer, DeBoer moved quickly to secure Morgan’s future in Tuscaloosa, sealing a market-crushing extension.

Morgan earned an annual base salary of $500,000 in his initial contract with Alabama, which was finalized in February. His improved deal marks the latest piece of a significant investment in football’s front office space.

ESPN’s Jake Trotter reported earlier this summer that Texas Tech general manager James Blanchard had received a new two-year contract worth a total of $800,000.
