Source: LA Galaxy signs ex-Dortmund, Germany star Marco Reus

Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder and three-time Bundesliga Player of the Season Marco Reus has signed with LA Galaxy, a source told ESPN.

An official announcement with contract details is expected on Thursday.

The 35-year-old German was out of contract this summer after completing a long spell at Dortmund that began in 2012.

At the Bundesliga club that reached the UEFA Champions League final in June, Reus scored 171 goals in 426 games in league and cup competitions. He also won the German Cup twice (2017, 2021) and the Supercup twice (2013, 2019).

At international level, Reus played 48 times for Germany, scoring 15 goals.

The attacking-minded midfielder could be the missing piece for the emerging Galaxy, who sit atop the MLS Western Conference standings.

After a disappointing 2023 season that ended without a playoff spot, the Galaxy have emerged as title contenders in 2024 with the second-highest total points (49) in MLS.

Led by goal scorers and chance creators Gabriel Pec, Joseph Paintsil, Dejan Joveljic and Riqui Puig, the Galaxy gain even more attacking power with the addition of Reus as they aim for their first MLS Cup title since 2014.

The Galaxy, currently on a short break following their elimination in the round of 16 of this year’s Leagues Cup tournament, return to action on August 24 to play in a home match against Atlanta United FC. The five-time MLS Cup champions have eight games remaining in the regular season before the playoffs begin.

Before signing with the Galaxy, Reus was linked with a move to St. Louis City.
