Soldiers surround the Bolivian presidential palace during an attempted coup

Bolivia’s presidential palace has been stormed by soldiers as the country’s president warned of a developing ‘coup’.

Troops blocked the entrances to La Paz’s Murillo Square, where key government buildings are located, before ramming the doors of the main building.

Soldiers then entered the building.

Armored vehicles and troops have taken up positions on the square.

President Luis Arce had previously warned on social media about “irregular mobilizations of some army units.”

He had said that democracy must be respected.

In a television message to the country, the president, together with his ministers at the presidential palace, said they need the Bolivian people to organize and mobilize against the coup in favor of democracy.
