Softball Roundup: Liberty High sweeps Maquoketa in non-conference doubleheader

Class 4A No. 11 Liberty High won a non-conference doubleheader against Maquoketa on Monday, winning the opener 7-2 and taking the final game 7-0.

Liberty High improved its season record to 22-11 with the sweep, while Maquoketa fell to 11-17.

Ellie Tague earned the win for the Lightning in Game 1, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and two base hits in a complete game.

Lanie Meyer hit a home run and drove in three runs, while Haley Schroeder had three hits, drove in two runs and scored one run to lead the Lightning to the top.

Ava Tague was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Brynlee Slockett was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.

Kaelyn Rickels earned the win in Game 2 by striking out five batters without giving up a hit and throwing a five-hit shutout.

Schroeder, Kennedy Conner and Kinley Jones all had two hits for Liberty High.

Mischa Reiners had a hit, drove in a run and scored twice, Kelsey Kaut had a hit, drove in a run and scored once and Tague doubled, drove in a run and scored once.

Slockett had one hit and drove in two runs, was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Jones was 2-for-3 with a double.
