Softball: Park Rapids 18U team wins pair of games at Pierz tournament – Park Rapids Enterprise

PIERZ – The Park Rapids 18U fastpitch softball team improved to 5-2 on the season after winning two games at the Pierz Tournament on Sunday, June 16.

Park Rapids opened with decisive wins over Little Falls (16-0 in three innings) and Sauk Rapids (14-2 in four innings) before falling to the Minnesota Blast (15-0 in four innings).

Against Little Falls, Park Rapids scored 10 points in the first inning to take control.

Allie Rowland, Keira Noyd and Aubrey Current singled while Maggie Huber, Allie Michaelson, Vivian Shepersky, Julia Grande and Molly Cederstrom walked. Madison Himango was hit by a pitch as the first nine batters reached base and scored. Singles by Michaelson, Himango and Shepersky ended the inning.

Park Rapids scored six runs in the second on a single by Current, a home run by Cederstrom, walks to Huber and Noyd, and singles by Michaelson, Himango and Shepersky.

Michaelson went 2 for 2 with three runs, Shepersky went 2 for 2 with two runs, Current went 2 for 2 with two runs, and Himango went 2 for 2 as Park Rapids finished with 11 hits. Noyd earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out nine in three innings.

A five-run first inning lifted Park Rapids past Sauk Rapids.

A walk to Rowland was followed by a single by Adrienne Cook, a double by Nora Cederstrom and singles by Michaelson, Rachel Weiss, Ella Oswald and Molly Cederstrom as Park Rapids led 5-0.

A walk to Cook and singles by Nora Cederstrom, Shepersky and Natalie Weiss produced three more runs in the second, while a single by Molly Cederstrom, a triple by Himango and a single by Cook made it 10-2 in the third .

Two errors and singles by Molly Cederstrom, Himango and Cook closed out Park Rapids’ scoring in the fourth.

Cook and Molly Cederstrom both went 3 for 3, Himango went 2 for 2 and Nora Cederstrom went 2 for 3, as those four each scored two runs. Park Rapids finished with 15 hits, with Natalie Weiss earning the win after allowing two hits and striking out seven.

Singles by Shepersky and Huber in the second and Himango in the fourth were the only hits in the loss to the Blast. Peyton Offerdahl took the loss as the Blast used 15 hits to score four runs in the second and 11 points in the fourth.

Park Rapids’ game against Pelican Rapids was rained out on Tuesday, June 18.
