(Society) Employees with adrenal cancer while working in a semiconductor factory admit to an industrial accident

An employee who contracted adrenal cancer while working in a semiconductor factory has been recognized as an industrial accident after a lawsuit.

The human rights organization ‘Protector of the Health and Human Rights of Semiconductor Workers’ said that A, a 42-year-old former SK Hynix, recently won a lawsuit against the Korea Labor Welfare Corporation to cancel the disapproval of medical care benefits.

The court explained that even if the dozens of harmful substances processed by A do not exceed the exposure risk criteria, it cannot be ruled out that they could have influenced the outbreak by synergizing with each other.

He went on to say that there was no genetic mutation or family history that could cause A, and that it is difficult to deny the causal link between harmful substances exposed at work and adrenal cancer.

A, who has worked at SK Hynix’s Cheongju factory since 2000, was diagnosed with adrenal cancer in 2020 and applied for medical benefits from the government-owned company in July 2021, but filed a lawsuit when it was not accepted under the fact that the The causality between work and illness was not proven.
