Social Security will send out two SSI checks in November, but there’s a catch

Some Social Security recipients will notice an unusual pattern in their payments this year. They will receive two Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks in November but none in December. This payment schedule is due to the way the Social Security Administration (SSA) handles payment dates when the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday.

SSI recipients will receive two checks in November and none in December

SSI benefits are typically paid out on the first business day of each month. However, because December 1st falls on a Sunday this year, the SSA will pay out the December SSI payment early, on Friday, November 29th. As a result, recipients will receive their regular November payment on November 1 and an additional check on November 29, which will count for December. As a result, no SSI payment will be made in December.

This isn’t the first time this has happened. SSI beneficiaries experienced a similar situation earlier this year when they received two payments in August and none in September. The 2025 calendar shows that this pattern will repeat, requiring recipients to plan their budgets accordingly.

SSI provides financial assistance to individuals of limited income and resources who are 65 years of age or older, are blind, or have a qualifying disability, including children with disabilities. Generally, it is aimed at those who earn less than $1,971 per month from their work.

Payments will continue as usual for those receiving regular Social Security benefits in November. The SSA distributes these payments based on dates of birth:

  • November 13: Dates of birth between November 1 and 10

  • November 20: Dates of birth between November 11 and 20

  • November 27: Dates of birth between November 21 and 31

SSI recipients need to be aware of these schedule changes in order to manage their finances. It may seem beneficial to receive two payments in one month, but it’s important to remember that there won’t be any in December. Beneficiaries are encouraged to budget accordingly to cover expenses during both months.
