The Silent Hill 2 remake sounds like it looks like it will be the faithful tribute fans are hoping forBut new gameplay twists and secrets mean it won’t be a one-on-one recreation. According to Bloober Team’s creative director, the survival horror remake will take players much longer to complete than the original.

It certainly won’t be a long race, but it will last longer than the 2001 PlayStation 2 game it is based on a New England town plagued by psychological terror. “The first playthrough takes an average of 16-18 hours,” director Mateusz Lenart posted online this week (via Eurogamer). “If you like to spend your time looking for everything we put into the game and the things we hid from you, it will definitely take you more than 20 (hours).”

The original Silent Hill 2 takes about eight hours to complete, according to player surveys on HowLongToSucceedwith completionist runs closer to 16 hours. The game has six different endings, which Lenart alluded to in a separate post , but the remake apparently has even more alternate endings. “I’m not counting the new game plus and all the endings of course,” he added, responding to a fan. “I’m curious how fast you’ll get them all.”

It’s nice to know that loyal fans will not only be treated to a cinematic update to one of their favorite games, but also a potentially more robust survival horror experience overall, with some new combat mechanics and new hidden things to explore and discover along the way. Silent Hill 2 remake is also $70, even on Steam where most games are still only $60. Hopefully each of those extra hours feels as meaningful as the rest and it’s not just a rewind.
