Silent Hill 2 Remake mods remove fog and replace James Sunderland in a nod to HD Collection

PC players are already modding Silent Hill 2 Remake, returning the game to something more similar to the original release.

The series as a whole is known for its persistent fog, but some of the most notable mods on NexusMods are the ones that remove the fog completely, making the game a completely different experience.

Modder FrancisLouis, for example, created the Silent Hill 2 HD Collection mod, as a cheeky nod to the much-criticized collection that stripped away much of the signature fog.

In fact, the same modder has gone one step further with their Sunny Hills mod which – you guessed it – bathes the game in sunlight, with the added ability to remove fog (it’s a bit at otherwise clear).

You could even use NorskPL’s mod that replaces protagonist James Sunderland with the model from the 2001 game.

For a truly retro feel, however, check out MAK Moderator’s performance setup, which acts as a demake to recreate PS2-era graphics.

Once the fog is cleared, you can install this flycam mod from KeinZantezuken to get a really good look at the city of Silent Hill. That makes viewing the much-discussed Comic Sans ranch sign a lot easier.

Perhaps the boldest mod of all is replacing the James Sunderland model with that of Leon Kennedy from rival survival horror Resident Evil 4 Remake. I guess James was too busy playing bingo to find his missing wife.

Silent Hill 2 Remake was released earlier this week to critical acclaim. “Against all odds, Bloober Team has delivered a remake that expands on Silent Hill 2 in just the right places and pays careful attention to what it keeps,” according to our Eurogamer Silent Hill 2 Remake review.
